New Leadership Product: Be The Coach They Need

Crestcom’s newest leadership development module focuses on building coaching skills

Crestcom is pleased to announce the launch of our newest leadership development module: Be The Coach They Need. A recent survey by Gallup found that only 21% of employees strongly agree that their performance is managed in a way that motivates them to do outstanding work. Developing a coach’s mindset and approach is essential to organizational success. Without it, productivity declines, morale decreases, and performance is mediocre. Be The Coach They Need offers usable skills to transition from a style of a typical directing approach to one of a coach.

Crestcom franchisees will guide managers in developing a coaching mindset, learning how to apply a conversational framework and building language techniques that will lead to more effective coaching conversations. This new module will transform managers’ ability to coach and develop their employees.

Demonstrate a Coaching Mindset

Coaching can be difficult to define, and even more difficult to perfect. Managers can begin developing a coaching mindset by better understanding what coaching is:

  1. Non-judgemental
  2. Safe and confidential
  3. Conversational and collaborative
  4. Curious
  5. Respectful
  6. Authentic
  7. Ongoing

Coaching is about the language that you use and how you say things. For example, when you tell someone what to do you say, “I need you to do XYZ to deal with this customer issue.” In mentoring, you might say something along the lines of “Here are some things to watch out for when dealing with customer issues like this.”

Coaching, on the other hand, is more question-oriented. It’s meant to get employees to think and come to solutions themselves. In coaching, you might say something like “You have dealt with a similar issue before. How did you do it? What worked? What would you change?”

Essential Coaching Conversations Template

This new leadership development module also provides participants with a coaching template they can apply in their day-to-day management. The Essential Coaching Conversations Template is yet another tangible, practical leadership tool that Crestcom customers around the world take from class and implement into their businesses immediately.

The Essential Coaching Conversations Template helps managers make coaching conversations helpful and consistent across all employees and overtime for maximum impact. Each coaching conversation should include five essential elements. How managers present these elements and how the discussions with employees unfold are dependent on the individuals.

  1. Set expectations
  2. Inquire & identify the coaching target
  3. Brainstorm
  4. Mirror
  5. Confirm

Participants in Be The Coach They Need get to work together to fill in how the types of questions they might ask and discuss with peers how to overcome different challenges. They also get a chance to role-play and practice Essential Coaching Conversations to begin developing their coaching skills.

Crestcom franchisees facilitate these activities and more, ensuring that the material is received the way it is intended and that participants understand how to implement the key takeaways.
